Legal Aspects of Business–TDOL Mediation:
In any workers&Rsquo; compensation case, it is now a legal requirement that the case go through Tennessee Department of Labor mediation before a lawsuit can be filed. This requirement is designed to try and resolve the case before it goes to litigation. This topic will include the scheduling of the mediation, as well as deadlines for submitting information. It also will include the appropriate documentation employers should provide and the necessary strategies for effectively participating in mediation. Planning and proper execution can prevent costly litigation down the road.

Legal Aspects of Business–Upcoming Workers’ Compensation Legislation:
The Tennessee Supreme Court has handed down several rulings substantially modifying and increasing employers’ exposure to workers’ compensation claims in the last 12 months. These rulings will be explained as to their impact on your facility. Also, you need to know what upcoming bills are being introduced and what they actually mean.

This is an audience-interactive program so come prepared to share your thoughts/concerns about these issues.

This program is designed for, but not exclusive to, management, human resources, safety directors and any individual who is concerned or involved with making business and employee-related decisions.

METCOM Inc. Continuous Improvement Plant Tour

Join the Tennessee District of PMA as we gather for a METCOM Inc. plant tour in Cookeville, TN, which will be followed by an enjoyable networking dinner and a seminar on their continuous improvement.

METCOM Inc. opened in 1977 solely as a spinning shop in a 60,000-square-foot facility. In 1984, the first press for stamping and deep drawing was added. After several expansions and relocations, METCOM Inc. now operates in a 114,000-square-foot building on 15 acres.

METCOM uses a combination of deep drawing, spinning and stamping, which permits a vast range of products manufactured in the most efficient and economical way available. Because of its minimal tooling cost and extremely fast turnaround, spinning is the method of choice for lower production and limited runs. It is ideal for forming complex shapes. METCOM also has the capability of stamping and deep drawing products for higher production runs. In some cases, it is possible to combine the spinning and stamping processes to minimize cost. The addition of laser cutting has improved quality, delivery and material utilization while providing flexibility and an avenue for innovation.

The catered dinner will provide an opportunity for a presentation on METCOM’s data-driven approach to prioritize continuous improvement efforts, corrective and preventive actions. Information from production, quality and sales is combined and analyzed to help set the direction for the upcoming year. METCOM looks forward to hosting the tour and sharing iderican manufacturing stay competitive.

Eaton Lean Mfg. Plant Tour

Join the PMA Tennessee District for a tour of the Eaton Electrical plant located in Cleveland, TN. The plant opened in 1977, and Eaton purchased it in 1978 from Cutler-Hammer. The facility is located on 26 acres with a 160,000-sq.- ft. building.

The Cleveland plant produces switching devices, safety switches, rotary switches, elevator control switches, fusible panelboard switches, enclosed circuit breakers and bolted pressure switches. These switches range from 30 to 1200 amps while the bolted pressure switch ranges from 800 to 6000 amps.

The Cleveland plant also has a Flex Center for customer-designed products.

Eaton Corporation has been serving the needs of its customers for more than 90 years. During this time, the company progressed from a small truck-parts supplier to a multinational diversified industrial manufacturer.

Eaton services commercial and military aviation; aerospace; military weapons; heavy-, medium- and light-duty trucks; industrial machinery; marine; off-highway and agricultural equipment; passenger cars; and residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

The catered dinner will feature Eaton lean specialists discussing their implementation of lean principles and their application.

Exhibit at the Tennessee District Suppliers’ Night!

Suppliers' Nights are designed to expose PMA associate members to our manufacturing membership and to assist in business growth and the expansion of markets they serve. Suppliers’ night exhibitors gain new leads, enhance their industry image and maintain customer loyalty.

Exhibiting is one of the most cost-effective ways for companies to reach qualified audiences. Each exhibitor space at this event will consist of an 8-ft. draped table with two chairs and wastebasket.
Who will attend? Shop foremen; manufacturing, industrial and quality engineers; inspection personnel; business owners and managers will all be in attendance. There is no cost to attendees and complimentary hors d'oeuvres will be served. Also, a cash bar will be available and a Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament will be featured.

Company Overview
A.O. Smith manufactures and markets a comprehensive line of residential and commercial water heaters as well as high-efficiency copper-tube boilers, hot- water storage tanks and pump tanks. Some of the best-known water heater brands in the industry are also offered. A.O. Smith patented the process for glass lining a water heater tank in 1936, and the glass-lined water heater remains the standard of the industry. Manufacturing operations are located in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China and the Netherlands.

Directions: From Nashville, Take I-24 W to Exit 43. Merge onto Briley Pkwy/TN-155 W for 6.3 miles. Take exit 24 for TN-12 N toward Ashland City for 0.2 mile. Merge onto Ashland City Hwy/Hydes Ferry Pike/TN-12 W. Continue to follow Ashland City Hwy for 7.1 miles. Continue on TN-12 N for 5.3 miles. Turn left onto McQuarry St. Continue on to 500 Tennessee Waltz Parkway/Lindahl Parkway/By-pass Rd.
